DSO: GAUGE81 is synonymous with party-ready evening wear that also reads uncomplicated and effortless. When designing evening wear looks, how do you ensure you strike the balance between sexy and comfortable?

I think feeling sexy—while feeling comfortable—is a key combination. Along with our designs and silhouettes, a lot of focus is placed on the fabric, yarn and stitch selection, to highlight the right feminine features in a not so literal way and offer support in the right places.

DSO: You were born and raised in Colombia, spent some time living in New York City, and are currently based in Amsterdam – how has your global worldview shaped your perspective as a designer and creative?

The collision of these contrasting cultures, my southern roots and my adopted northern home base, has been instrumental in the inception of GAGUGE81 and the brand’s aesthetic—fun yet minimal.

 

 

 

DSO:GAUGE81 fans include celebrities such as Selena Gomez and Emily Ratajkowski – what do you think draws such bold, iconic women to your designs?

You really never know how this things happen, but it is very humbling and flattering to see women we admire gravitate towards the brand and select one of our pieces out of the millions of options they can choose from for a special event.

  

 

DSO: What is your favourite piece from your current collection (in other words: what should we all be wearing this season)?

It has to be the Vilma jumpsuit—it has an uptown confidence. I think this is the season for jumpsuits, and it most surely ticks the boxes of sexy and comfortable.
